Use

A stopper knot is a terminal safety knot tied at the end of a climbing, lanyard or any moving rope to prevent a friction hitch or climbing device from running off the end of the rope. 

Why use it

It's quite critical to prevent falling off the end of your rope .....

Ensure that the knot has a cross on one side and parallel on the other
