Level 1 is designed specifically for scientists, researchers, and field professionals with no prior tree climbing experience.

The course teaches a safe, efficient climbing system for accessing the tree canopy using techniques that allow for ground-activated rescue in the event of an emergency. The system has been developed specifically for remote fieldwork and tall tree access, where climbers may be operating in isolated environments with minimal personnel support.

Training focuses on safe access close to the stem of the tree, with limited lateral movement, making it ideal for scientific fieldwork in the forest canopy.

Best suited for

• Complete novice climbers

• Those with a healthy respect for heights seeking a gradual and safe introduction to climbing for research and data collection

• Tropical forest and remote-location fieldwork

• Research and data collection within Zones 1 and 2 on the diagram below.

Considerations

• Limited lateral movement within the canopy

• Restricted access to the outer periphery of the crown
